There is a stronger enforcement framework, but buyers still need to verify evidence. The FTC’s Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule became effective October 21, 2024. It addresses practices including fake reviews, sentiment-conditioned review incentives and certain falsely independent company-controlled review sites. (ftc.gov)

On December 22, 2025, the FTC warned businesses about potential violations, including compensation conditioned on favorable reviews. These were warnings, not a finding that Vietnamese tailoring reviews generally are false. (ftc.gov)

Recommended shortlist test:

  • Look for reports about the finished garment after use, not only showroom hospitality.
  • Ask whether a reviewer received a discount or another benefit.
  • Separate platform verification from verification of cloth or construction.
  • Check whether a ranking publisher also sells introductions or represents listed suppliers.
  • Seek evidence of how a correction was handled.

Publish commercial relationships and keep supplier payments separate from ranking decisions. Do not present a supplier-controlled assessment as independent research.
